On our clients behalf we are seeking a dedicated and proactive Environmental Health Officer to join their team for a 3 month assignment with the possibility of an extension.
In this dynamic and community-focused role, you will be responsible for administering public and environmental health legislation, conducting inspections, investigations, and assessments across a range of premises and activities to ensure compliance and best practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster strong communication and collaboration within the Health Services team and consult with the Coordinator Environmental Health on key matters.
- Liaise with internal departments, other local governments, and regulatory bodies on environmental health issues.
- Assess plans and inspect buildings, food premises, and dwellings to ensure compliance with the Health Act, Food Act, and local laws.
- Conduct regular inspections and sampling of food businesses, aquatic facilities, stables, and public buildings, including during events.
- Investigate public health concerns including noise, pest infestations, infectious diseases, and environmental complaints; implement control measures as needed.
- Provide expert advice to the public and industry on topics such as immunisation, pest control, and public health standards.
- Prepare reports, manage enforcement actions, and assist with legal proceedings when required.
- Promote workplace safety and environmental responsibility in line with City policies and contribute to ongoing improvements in systems and practices.
- Tertiary qualification approved by the Chief Health Officer for appointment as an Authorised Officer under the Public Health Act 2016.
- Eligible for appointment as an Authorised Noise Officer under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with a focus on customer service.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Well-developed written communication skills, including report writing and research.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
