CoreStaff Darwin have a exciting opportunity for experienced HSE / Work Health & Safety Trainer to join the team on an initial 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension in the Position Title of HSE System and Assurance Principal.
    
Our client is a government-owned organisation that delivers electricity, water and sewerage services across the Northern Territory.
     
This is a great opportunity to work with a large organisation where you'll help improve workplace safety by developing training, supporting audits and working with stakeholders across the business.
   
About the Role & Responsibilities
   
As the HSE System and Assurance Principal you'll develop and implement HSE training and awareness programs, establishing management review and audit frameworks, coordinating certification activities, and building robust contractor assurance processes.
  
The successful candidate will work closely with both the project team and the broader HSE team and will be Office Based in Darwin City.
  
Key Responsibilities
  
  • Develop online WHS training, awareness, and assessment materials.
  • Coordinate the rollout of HSE training across the organisation.
  • Conduct gap analyses of HSE systems, governance, training, and assurance processes.
  • Develop and improve HSE policies, procedures, and management system documentation.
  • Facilitate WHS management review meetings with senior leaders.
  • Design, implement, and coordinate internal, contractor, and certification audit programs.
  • Manage external audit providers and certification activities.
  • Prepare audit reports, executive briefing papers, and performance reports.
  • Present audit findings and recommendations to management and executive stakeholders.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships to support organisational change and continuous improvement.
  • Provide expert advice on HSE compliance, assurance, governance, and risk management.
  • Provide project and administrative support as required.
  
About You
  
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing HSE management systems aligned with recognised standards such as ISO 45001.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE assurance, governance, auditing, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Experience designing and delivering HSE training and awareness programs, including online learning content.
  • Experience managing internal and external audit programs, including contractor assurance and certification audits.
  • Proven ability to conduct gap analyses and develop practical improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence outcomes at all organisational levels.
  • Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports, executive papers, and presentations.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Copilot.
  • Applicants must be based in Darwin and currently residing in the Northern Territory.
  
Qualifications, Training and Licences
  
Mandatory
  • Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification in ISO 45001 (or an equivalent recognised auditing qualification).
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety (WHS), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
  
Desirable
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management, Business Management, or a related discipline.
  • Lead Auditor qualification in other management system standards (e.g. ISO 9001 or ISO 14001).
