CoreStaff Darwin have a permanent Full Time Opportunity in the Civil Construction Industry for a Underground Service Locator, based in Darwin Northern Territory.
   
About our Client: 
   
Our Client, is a Northern Territory owned and operated company providing underground service locations and hydro vacuum excavations across the Territory and Australia, providing services to a broad range of sectors including oil and gas, mining, defence, airports, government, and civil.
  
We have a permanent opportunity for a  Underground Service Locator.
  
About the Role & Responsibilities:
  
This role involves performing underground utility locating, concrete scanning, and leak detection using a range of non-invasive technologies. You will assist clients to identify the location and depth of underground utilities and infrastructure to ensure safe excavation, design, and construction practices.
  
  • Locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic field (EMF) and ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology
  • Interpret and apply BYDA responses, service plans, and construction drawings
  • Conduct concrete scanning and imaging using GPR equipment
  • Undertake non-invasive leak detection using acoustic and tracer gas techniques
  • Prepare accurate job documentation and digital field reports
  • Maintain equipment and vehicle in clean, safe, and serviceable condition
  • Follow WHS procedures, participate in toolbox talks, and contribute to a strong safety culture
  • Communicate clearly with clients, site supervisors, and team members to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Occasional remote and overnight work as required
  
To be successful for this role, you will need the following:
   
Essential:
  • General understanding of how underground service location supports civil construction and infrastructure work
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn new technical skills in utility locating, leak detection, and concrete scanning
  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Ability to pass and obtain a National Criminal a defense base card
  • Ability to pass a full pre employment medical
  • Current manual driver’s license
  • Ability to read and interpret site plans, drawings, service maps, and BYDA responses
  • High level report writing ability
  • Good communication and teamwork skills on active construction sites
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and following procedures
Desirable:
  • 6–24 months’ experience in underground locating or related civil/construction roles
  • Experience using EMF or Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment
  • Relevant training such as NULCA Accreditation or RIICCM202D (Identify, Locate and Protect Underground Services)
  • Experience or interest in leak detection or acoustic testing
  • Familiarity with GPS/GIS data capture systems or digital field reporting tools
  • Additional certifications such as First Aid, Traffic Management, or Confined Space Entry
